Sunday, March 4, 5:00 p.m.

Judy Kern, Director of Programs at the West Side Catholic Center, will speak about the work of our close neighbor (diagonally across Lorain Ave.).  Judy will also discuss the on-going and newer concerns of the people served by the Center.

Sunday, March 11, 5:00 p.m. – Worship service, followed by Potluck Dinner.  Religious Hospitality: a spiritual practice for UUs.  Liz Erickson based this service on a pamphlet by the Rev. Peter Morales of Colorado.  Morales spoke of true hospitality as a  very important spiritual discipline.  “Like meditation or prayer, hospitality connects with a deep truth and compassion that transcends our selves,” he wrote.  That sent Liz on an exploration, searching for the ways in which hospitality is grounded in the beliefs of our Universalist forebears.  Liz Erickson is a long-time Urban Hope community member.  She lives in Kent, Ohio and chairs Adult Religious Explorations at the Kent UU Church as well as working with the school garden program at Urban Hope.  A potluck dinner will follow, to which all are invited.

Wednesday, March 14th, 5:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 17, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  St. Patrick’s Day!

Sunday, March 18, 5:00 p.m.

Adult Religious Education, Week 3 of 4 based upon Brenda Anderson’s book, Playing the Quantum Field: How Changing Your Choices Can Change Your Life.  A primary concept in Anderson’s book is the idea that all persons and things are connected by a web of 10 “energyic choices.”  By utilizing “the power to choose how to use your energy,” writes Anderson, you can make yourself more efficient in your life.  Urban Hope’s Denise DeArment will lead this educational program.  Call her for more details at 216-548-7618.

Wednesday, March 21, 5:30 p.m. – Meeting, Steering Committee, all welcome.

Sunday, March 28, 5:00 p.m., Worship service followed by Potluck Dinner

Doris Matthey will lead this service, called What Do You Mean, “Young Lady?”  Doris recently retired from full time employment in the field of Aging.  She reflects on society’s and her own perceptions of aging as well as the impact of being a Unitarian Universalist on her life journey.  A

potluck dinner will follow the service, to which all are welcome.

Direct from doris

Good news!  Urban Hope received a $400 grant from the O-MD Social Justice Action Committee.  Thanks to Don Fredgant’s overview of our programming and activities.

Ralph Ryan took on two roles recently, 1)Keeper of the Calendar – if you want to schedule a meeting, check with him to make sure the time has not been taken; and 2) Supply Coordinator – if you see any routine supplies (coffee, paper towels, etc) are running low, let him know.  His phone is 1-440-842-7402.  I am grateful to Ralph for taking these roles for the welfare of the Community.

Rob Farmer and David Frazier are making progress on a new WEB SITE for Urban Hope!  Rob is the Editor and David is the Technical Administrator.  This is another positive step for the Urban Hope Community.  I am sure they will appreciate any comments or suggestions.  And John Cartwright is working on a new Directory, one that will give us current phone numbers and e-mails for all regular attendees.  He, too, can use your cooperation and assistance.

I am also grateful to those who stepped up and gave services or programs, or arranged for them in the last few months.  As the programming coordinator position is unfilled, this has been a shared endeavor with myself as “temporary” coordinator.  Liz Erickson, Ralph Ryan, Denise DeArment, David Frazier and I have arranged or delivered recent or upcoming Sunday events.  Thanks to all!

In Peace and Hope, Doris
